valsalva manuever

Valsalva is the place in Norse mythology where old doctors go when they die or are deselected by their HMO.

OK, no, it is really just the name given to the little "manuever" we accomplish when we hold our glottis closed and force expiration. For example, when we are passing a bowel movement or bearing down to have a baby (you remember that part, don't you, Mom).
