hypoplasia, hyperplasia

Hypoplasia means undergrowth or less than normal growth of a tissue or organ. For example, Poland syndrome primarily involves congenital hypoplasia or complete absence of the pectoralis major muscle. Hyperplasia means the opposite: overgrowth or excessive growth of a tissue or organ. The adjectival forms of these two nouns are hypoplastic and hyperplastic, respectively.
