hematocrit

The hematocrit is a measure of the fractional level of red cells in the blood. Its level is expressed as a percentage originally obtained by centrifuging a blood specimen in a tiny capillary tube and comparing the red cell level to the total volume on a calibrated scale. Now, most labs use an automated analyser that calculates this percentage from other measurements.
