A cyst is a closed sac which develops abnormally in a body cavity or structure. It typically consists of an outer wall or membrane that secretes or sloughs material into the closed cavity of the sac. The material in the sac might be fluid, mucus, or debris such as the dead skin cells and oily material of a sebaceous cyst.
